Meet The Team
At Sojourners’ Place, we are dedicated to providing shelter and personalized services to empower homeless men and women. Our experienced team works closely with residents to address their unique challenges, helping them reintegrate into the community as self-sufficient individuals. Our approach prioritizes compassion and respect for each person’s dignity.

Resident Supervisor
Kirk Carvalho is one of our case managers. Kirk is a graduate of Delaware Technical Community College. He holds an Associate Degree in Human Services and Drug and Alcohol Counseling. Kirk brings 13 years of experience in the field of substance abuse he has previously worked as a counselor at Kirkwood Detox. Kirk’s favorite part of his job is helping residents achieve successful independence where they gain employment, become financially independent and eventually move on from Sojourners’ to a home of their own.

Cook and Kitchen Manager
Brett is the kitchen manager. He successfully completed the food bank culinary training course and is servsafe certified.

Building Superintendent
Derek is an alumnus of Sojourners’ Place, completing the program in 2012. Derek, who is certified in refrigeration, became the facility manager in 2013. He works with many vendors to ensure the smooth operation of Sojourners’ Place. In his free time, Derek enjoys cooking, spending time with family and traveling.

Resident Supervisor
Eric is an alumnus of Sojourners’ Place, completing the program in 2018. Eric who is certified as a nursing assistant, joined Sojourners’ Place as a resident supervisor in 2023. In 2024 Eric was the recipient of the “Ray of Light” award to acknowledge his standing efforts in changing his life. In his free time, Eric enjoys spending time with his son’s, doing outreach efforts and supporting other individuals in recovery.

Resident Supervisor
John is an alumnus of Sojourners’ Place, completing the program in 2019. Subsequently John, secured employment at Sojourners’ Place in 2023 as resident supervisor. John uses his position as resident supervisor to coach and mentor current residents. John is full of compassion, understanding and kindness.

Resident Supervisor
Mark is an alumnus of Sojourners’ Place, completing the program in 2024. Mark was often seen volunteering around the facility in which subsequently he landed employment at Sojourners’ Place as a resident supervisor. In his free time, Mark enjoys visiting his family in Dover and shopping.

Resident Supervisor
A native of Delaware County, Jack has been a dedicated employee since 1998. Jack is a retired refrigeration and air conditioner specialist. He has provided vital services to many religious organizations in this role. In his free time, Jack enjoys spending time with his brother Lary and sister Katie. His given spirit has made a difference to Sojourners’ Place.

Case Manager
Linette Marshall is a wife, mother of three, and a dedicated community advocate, mentor, and human services professional with a passion for empowering individuals and strengthening families. She holds a B.S. in Behavioral Science from Wilmington University, equipping her with a solid foundation in human behavior, case management, and client-centered support. Her journey with Sojourner’s Place began in 2020 as an intern, where she quickly fell in love with the mission, the people it serves, and the transformative work happening within the organization. Today, she proudly works as a Case Manager and serves as Chairperson of the Volunteer Committee, providing direct support to residents and leading initiatives that foster community engagement, personal growth, and recovery. A proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Linette continues to uphold the values of sisterhood, scholarship, and service through her leadership and outreach. Her work is grounded in compassion, integrity, and a deep commitment to creating meaningful, lasting change one life at a time.

Volunteer and Event Coordinator
Michelle has been a valued employee at Sojourners’ Place since 2014 as the Volunteer and Activities Coordinator. In her role she works with many organizations supporters in providing resources that benefit the residents of Sojourners’ Place. In addition, Michelle is the Out of Poverty instructor, which provides life skills training to the residents. In her free time, Michelle enjoys spending time with family, teaching bible study and going to the beach.
