Dr. Bethany Hall-Long is a lifelong educator, nurse, public servant, and nationally recognized leader dedicated to improving health, equity, and opportunity for all Delawareans. Since 1996, Bethany has been engaged with Sojourners’ Place as nursing faculty and a healthcare volunteer. She recently served as the 75th Governor of Delaware and previously as the 26th Lieutenant Governor of Delaware, following years of legislative service in both the Delaware State Senate and House of Representatives.
Health, stability, and dignity are foundational to thriving communities. As a Celebrity Server, Bethany Hall-Long is supporting Sojourners’ Place Homeless Shelter to help ensure individuals and families experiencing homelessness have access to safe shelter, supportive services, and hope for a better future.
Born and raised in Sussex County, Bethany’s career has been guided by a deep commitment to public health and community well-being. As a nurse and research scientist, she has spent decades working to address health inequities and expand access to care—particularly for individuals facing mental health challenges, substance use disorder, homelessness, and chronic illness. Her work has focused on ensuring that systems of care reach those who need them most.
As Lieutenant Governor, Bethany led major statewide efforts to strengthen Delaware’s behavioral health system, including the creation of the Behavioral Health Consortium, bringing together families, educators, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and community leaders to address the opioid epidemic and mental health crisis.
Bethany’s lifelong dedication to service continues through her work as Professor Emeritus at the University of Delaware, National Co-Chair of Million Women Mentors, and a trusted advocate for policies that improve lives and strengthen communities.
